Trip:DO YOU RECALL YOUR FIST KISS?
Slater: December 12th '84, one day before Joe Buran won "Pipemasters". I was leaving on the next day for Hawaii and I had a girlfriend I was crazy about. She dropped by to give me my Christmas present, entered the room where my father and I were and kissed me in front of him. I freaked out! I remember, on the next day, calling my brother and saying: "I kissed her in front of Dad!"(laughter)

Trip: AND THE FIRST TIME YOU HAD SEX, WAS IT IN FRONT OF YOUR MOTHER?
Slater:(Laughing) I was 16 and had been desperate to do it for two years. I remember saying to my brother: "This year I have to get laid whatever it takes!" (pause) Man, come to think of it, it was in front of my younger brother! I don't believe it!

Trip: HOW DID IT GO?
Slater: The girl practically raped me! She came by our place and sat with me in the couch. My brother was in the armchair beside and she started to touch me while I turned sideways, trying to hide it. It was tough! Until I said: "I can't do it in front of my brother, let's go to my room ". She was younger than me and totally crazy.
Trip: HOW DID IT END?
Slater:I was horny as hell and when it really started it only lasted a second. Literally one second! I got it out before and, to save myself the embarrassment, said that I didn't want to go on, that I wasn't ready. "better stop, better we don't ", I said. But I had come all over the bed. She kept insisting, but I maintained that it wasn't time, and all. Everything was going fine until she picked up her clothes. Man, she jammed her hand into that warm puddle and went "Ughhh!" (laughing) I was never that embarrassed in my whole life! For years I hid this and prayed she'd never tell my friends. I even imagined going to her and saying: "If you tell anyone I'll kill you!"
Trip: ARE YOU STILL IN TOUCH WITH HER?
Slater: We became friends and still meet.
Trip: HAVE YOU BEEN IN THERAPY?
Slater: I went for while, but it didn't work. In fact, therapy doesn't work. The simple fact that someone goes to a shrink instead of trying to see what's wrong with their lives is a mistake. Someone looking for this kind of support is desperate and will find in therapy only a Band-Aid a palliative. Talking too much about a problem ends up by turning it into something a lot bigger than it really is. I think good books are a lot more help than therapy.
Trip:DO YOU SEE YOURSELF AS CONSUMERIST?
Slater: I have enough money to own what I like, but I've come to a point where I think I own too much stuff. Lately I've been giving away lots of things; boards, clothes, etc. I think you must give to receive.
